What is Laser Scanning?
3D Laser Scanning is a method of reality capture which utilises lasers to measure the surroundings and create a 3D representation of the real world in the form of a “point cloud”. A point cloud is made up of thousands or millions of coordinates in space which are derived from the laser measurements. The majority of modern laser scanners now have built in cameras and therefore colour values can also be applied to these coordinates to better represent the environment.
This point cloud data can then be provided to the client as a deliverable or used as an accurate reference for the creation of 3D models and 2D drawings.
Scan and Model can carry out laser scan surveys and provide point clouds in all standard formats such as E57, PTS, XYZ & RCS.
